Lightning strike may be to blame for house fire

Thunder and lightning rolled into Cypress along with heavy rain on Saturday afternoon. Brenda Powell, who lives on Sweetstone Grove Court, saw the lightning then heard an unusual sound. She looked outside and that's when she saw the smoke coming from her neighbor/s home. She sprang into action, calling 911 and alerting the neighbors.

The Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department responded to the home and they saw heavy smoke coming from the attic of the home. The fire was put out quickly. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Thankfully, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. The homeowner did have three cats and all were located and taken to safety. The cause of the fire remains under investigation though the lightning strike remains a possibility,
