Legoland evacuated due to bomb threat

Winter Haven police, along with Legoland Florida security, spent the afternoon investigating a bomb threat that was discovered at the Winter Haven theme park.

Legoland Florida evacuated both the park and adjoining hotel in response to the threat. .

Legoland released the following statement:

"A bomb threat was made at the property and we have begun evacuating the theme park and hotel for the safety and security of the guests and employees, which remains the number one priority."

Park general manager  Adrian Jones later clarified to say they believe the threat was a hoax, but they decided to evacuate "out of an abundance of caution."

Security officials, police, and even the Polk County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad spent the afternoon combing through the park grounds for anything suspicious.

By 5:30 p.m., the all-clear was given.  Guests who were staying at the hotel were allowed to re-enter the park.

Park officials pledged to work with other guests to compensate them for the inconvenience.
