Latest on Christmas Day fire at Savoy Mosque

- An arson investigator was back on the scene this afternoon to tie up any loose ends in the Christmas Day fire at the Savoy Mosque on south Wilcrest.

They also canvased the area to determine if anyone saw something during the incident.

The ATF is also monitoring this case while the Houston Fire Department is taking the lead.

It was just after 2:00 p.m. last Friday when the owner of a neighboring business smelled smoke.

Ghulam Mustafa Khan says he was the first to discover the fire and he immediately called 911.

He says he still can't believe someone would set a holy place on fire on Christmas Day.

No one was in the building during the two-alarm fire, according to the fire department.

HFD ruled it incendiary, meaning someone intentionally started the fire that left the mosque gutted and worshipers with a new temporary home across the parking lot at another storefront.
