A kitten was rescued from the walls of an apartment complex after residents were finally able to pinpoint the location of the fervent cries they heard for five days.

According to Norfolk Animal Care Center in Virginia, residents of the apartment complex heard the kitten meowing for days between the walls but couldn't find the source.

"Finally, the sound remained fixed in one particular area, and so commenced sawing through the walls, in hopes of finding the wayward feline," the animal shelter wrote on Facebook.

Photos posted to Facebook show rescuers pulling the kitten from a hole created in the wall inside a bathroom cabinet.

The shelter says no one knows how she got there, or if she might belong to someone, but she is now safe at Norfolk Animal Care Center. She is available for adoption and has been named "Azalea".
