K-9 Deputy Michael Malinois aka "Mike" heads for retirement

"I won't say he's ever saved my life but he's extended my years by making me happy and working next to me. " says Deputy Matthew Hricko.
You see mike is actually Deputy Mike a narcotics detection dog for the Sheriff's office and a good one. A video news relase sent out by the office shows drug haul after drug haul. He even found money too and his handler Sgt. Mike Hricko couldn't be prouder of him.

"He's seized over 17 million dollars worth of narcotics, and over four million dollars worth of US currency and he's assisted in over 250 arrests with just his nose alone."

But this is his last day on the job. He's officially retiring, that's why he spent time  posing for pictures with the members of the ounty's commissioner's court.  He has no 401k, or K-9 if you prefer, but he does have a retirement plan. He's going to live out his days with Sgt. Hricko.

Mike is living thing made up of flesh and blood and fur and drool and tail wags, but to the county he's property. They couldn't just give him the dog. They had to do something first.

They had to declare him worthless so they could award him to the man who's worked beside him for four years, a man who thinks this officially worthless dog is anything but.

"This dog is worth his weight in gold."
