Jury seated for ex-deputy's husband accused of man's murder outside of Denny's

The jury has been seated in the high-profile murder trial of Terry Thompson, an ex-deputy's husband accused of putting a young dad, 24-yr-old John Hernandez into a fatal chokehold outside a Denny's near Crosby over a year ago.  Hernandez died in the hospital three days after the altercation, which happened on May 28.  Hernandez was reportedly urinating in the Denny's parking lot when Chauna and Terry Thompson approached him and an argument broke out.

The suspect's wife, former Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Chauna Thompson is slated to face her own murder trial in October. Thompson faces life in prison if convicted.

The high-profile case has led to several local protests, under the name Justice for Johnny.

Family and friends of the victim john Hernandez came out in shirts and full force last week to make sure they speak for the man who can’t anymore.

Cell phone video illustrates why Terry Thompson is facing a murder charge. The video shows Thompson on top of Hernandez with him in a chokehold. At the time of the incident, his wife Chauna was an off-duty Harris County deputy and is also seen in the video holding Hernandez down.  Hernandez’s parents spoke to us through an interpreter.

"It’s difficult especially knowing she (Chauna) is trained to de-escalate situations, but unfortunately in this situation instead of de escalating she participated."
