Judge rules Bedford teen murder suspect can be tried as an adult

FORT WORTH, Texas - A judge ruled a 16-year-old accused of killing a 14-year-old girl in Bedford can be tried in adult court.

Kaytlynn Cargill’s body was found in the Arlington landfill two days after she was reported missing from her apartment complex in June. Jordin Roache was arrested for her murder.

Investigators believe Roache and Cargill got into an argument over the $300 he owed her for a marijuana deal. He allegedly beat her with a hammer and then placed her body in a dumpster, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Tarrant County prosecutors asked that the 16-year-old be certified as an adult. His trial will now take place in an adult court with regular prosecutors and a judge.

Jordin's attorney says he will appeal the judge's decision. 

If convicted of murder as an adult, Roache could face a more severe penalty than if he was tried as a youth. He would be sentenced to time in an adult prison but still cannot face the death penalty.
