HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The Dominican Republic is a beautiful destination with great beaches and resorts, but it can also be a dangerous place for tourists.
The U.S. Department of State has classified the travel warning for the Dominican Republic as level two, encouraging visitors to exercise increased caution due to crime.
Last week, a couple visiting from New York went missing for almost two weeks. They were eventually found dead from a car crash.
But why did this alert go out yesterday? There is a concern for U.S. tourists by our government for violent crime, including armed robbery, homicide, and sexual assault throughout the Dominican Republic. That could mean tourists could be victimized.
