Bail reform in Harris County for misdemeanor offenders

HOUSTON (FOX 26) — Are you too poor to post your bail? Some judges in Harris County are trying to change that.

Janice Dotson Stephens, 61 died in jail in December 2018 from a heart condition. She was being held at the Bexar County Jail for five months on a trespassing charge and she couldn't get out because she didn't have the $300 bond.  That is an example of why Harris County judges are hoping to change the game when it comes to poor people being locked up because they can't afford the bond amount.

Judge Darrell Jordan, attorney Allan Van Fleet and attorney Mark A. Correro discuss the pending bail reform with Isiah Carey.
