2-year-old dies from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, HPD says

On Sunday afternoon, Houston police were called out to the 8400 block of Knox for a shooting. When they got to the scene a two-year-old boy had already been transported to the hospital with what police are calling a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Shortly after, the boy died.

An ambulance was brought out to the scene for the father and he was later taken in for questioning. Detectives say the gun was found on the couch and that at the time both parents were home.

“To all gun owners you need to secure the weapons whether it’s a trigger guard or some sort of safe you need to keep the weapons secure so that nothing like this can happen in the future this is a tragic tragic incident where two-year-old lost his life by what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound and unfortunately it’s something that didn’t need to happen,” says Captain David Angelo with the special victims unit.

No charges have been filed as of right now.
