Home invasion met with fatal force in southwest Houston

A suspected burglar is dead after an attempted break-in was met with gunfire in southwest Houston.

It happened at the Crossing at Hillcroft apartments.

It's believed the home invaders attempted to crack through the door of a unit with a steel bar.

The startled resident managed to reach a firearm and shoot the perpetrator who later collapsed on the grounds of the gated complex.

"Somebody tried to break in and they didn't make it very far," said resident Mitchell Hobizal.

After learning of the attempted break-in and shooting neighbors expressed both acceptance and alarm.

"That would worry anybody. To think that you are safe. It is supposed to be a gated community and to think somebody would come in and try to break in to your apartment and then be shot dead," said resident Tiffany Mitchell.

HPD homicide has yet not released names and details related to the case.

A spokesman for the Harris County District Attorney's Office says the fact surrounding the fatal shooting will automatically go before a Grand Jury for consideration.
