Home buyouts could provide signficant help for Houston flood victims

Neighborhoods like Walnut Bend in the Briar Forest area need some significant assistance after being repeatedly hit by Houston-area floods. Mountains of debris cover sidewalks throughout the neighborhood. The Briar Forest-area was flooded because of the release of the reservoirs, very close to the Buffalo Bayou.  So is it worth it to rebuild? A lot of people have been contacting the Harris County Flood Control District trying to figure out if there is an option to buy-out.

If you're interested in a home buyout because of repeated flooding, access the Harris County Flood Control District website, complete the "notice of voluntary interest" form. Someone within the district is expected to get back with you, and that is more of an effective way, according to the Flood District.  You may also call the phone bank with your questions, 713.684.4020, or access www.hcfcd.org.

In addition to this assistance, Mayor Turner reiterates that he is standing up for renters, so he saying if there's any
problem that they're having, they should call 311.
