Heights Heist: More than 55 vehicles burglarized over the weekend

We're learning, once again, why leaving valuables in your car is a bad idea as a group of thieves broke into dozens of cars at two apartment complexes in the Heights.

Houston police received 55 reports of car break-ins, 34 at The Grove at White Oak Apartments and 21 at The Gardens. Both apartments are along West TC Jester Boulevard.

"I had to replace two windows, my girlfriend had to replace one, so we ended up getting a little bit of a deal having to do so many of them," said Keith who was just one of the victims of this crime spree.

It was a deal not so much in Keith’s favor as his Xbox 360 was stolen and his girlfriend had a necklace snatched from her car, too.

“They were just going through the glove boxes and if there was something valuable they took it, and if there wasn’t something valuable they just moved onto the next car," said Keith.

On and on they moved smashing windows of at least 55 cars.

"I walked outside and I saw a couple of other cars busted and realized mine was one of them as well," said Ian Marshall who is another victim.

Ian thinks the criminals were looking for guns.

Houston police confirming at least one gun was stolen from a vehicle. Fortunately for Ian, nothing except some spare change was taken.

FOX 26 attempted to contact both apartment complexes and we're still waiting to hear back.
