Man charged with murder for allegedly shooting, killing estranged wife


Harris County deputies say a man charged with the murder of his estranged common law wife turned himself in. Roy Garcia Jr., 35, is charged with murder for allegedly shooting and killing Julia Martinez, 34, on Saturday.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, it happened around 1:25 p.m. on Saturday in the 7900 block of Echinacea Drive near Baytown. Witnesses told investigators the woman was in her vehicle with her two children when she was shot by her common law husband after the two argued. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the children were unharmed during the incident.

Deputies say Garcia fled the scene but surrendered to state troopers at a rest area in Guadalupe County around 10:15 p.m. Saturday night. He is being held in the Guadalupe County Jail.
