HCSO Auto Theft Division seeks victims of vehicle buying scam

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Division is seeking information on two suspects who have stolen numerous cars statewide across Texas.

Angelo Moreno and Jessica Sandoval have purchased Craigslist vehicles with fake checks and then immediately sell the stolen cars on Craigslist, or other social media sites, with fake titles and sales receipt papers.

The couple has been very successful at manipulating people and convincing them to accept small amounts of cash down payments for their vehicle along with a personal check for the remaining amount.

Typically, by the time the unsuspecting seller finds out the check is insufficient, they have already sold the stolen vehicle to an unsuspecting buyer.

Moreno and Sandoval have been arrested by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft division, but investigators are still looking for other possible victims of the couple.

If you have recently purchased a vehicle from, or sold a vehicle to these two defendants, or have information which may lead to the recovery of additional stolen vehicles, please call HCSO Auto Theft Division  (281) 446-4399 or Crime Stoppers at  (713) 222-TIP (8477).
