GALVESTON, Texas (FOX 26) - Galveston police need your help identifying a child whose body was found on a beach.
At the Galveston Police Department on Sunday afternoon, detectives released a sketch of the boy who was found dead near the intersection of Seawall Boulevard and 7th Street on Friday evening.
A couple walking by the beach saw the body and contacted police.
"They were walking through this very small stretch of beach next to some grasslands next to the surf and spotted the body and called us", says Capt. Joshua Schirard.
The department commissioned artist Lois Gibson to draw his sketch.
"It's really hard," says Gibson. "On the way to do it, I started crying." She described him to be between three-to-five years old, possibly Hispanic, with dark hair, brown eyes and a beautiful smile.
"I want to reach out for that baby and to give a vision to cry out", says Gibson.
"One, this is not a common occurrence that happens here, and two, we are throwing every resource we possibly can at assuring we identify this child and that we figure out what happened," adds Capt. Schirard.
Detectives are treating the case as a homicide and say they have checked all relevant databases to see if his description fits that of any child reported missing.
For now, they are hoping the image rendered by Gibson will help identify him.
"This kid deserves justice," says Galveston Detective Jeff Banks.
"Somebody knows this kid, whether it's a family member or a friend, daycare provider, teacher, next door neighbor, guy at the grocery store that has seen this kid, come in, somebody somewhere here has seen this child," says Capt. Schirard.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Galveston Police Department.
