FOX 26 News Brief for April 17, 2018

A Precinct 4 deputy constable is in the hospital after he was seriously injured in a shootout. According to investigators, Wesley Smith fired at deputies when they responded to a 911 call from Smith, where he threatened to commit suicide. Deputy Christopher Gaines underwent about eight hours of surgery. Two other deputies were also hurt.

A woman on a Southwest Airlines flight was killed after she was partially sucked out of a window. The flight was headed to Dallas from New York when one of the engines exploded in mid-air.

Houston Texans star J.J. Watt said his thoughts are with her and her family. He called Mrs. Bush an incredible woman and said the PSA they did together where she put on football gear was a highlight for him.

Infowars is in a growing legal war. The conspiracy website and its founder Alex Jones are being sued for defamation. A Houston-area law firm is representing the parents of children murdered in the Sandy Hook massacre.

A parent in Fort Bend ISD reportedly tried to game the system and alter the outcome of a district wide survey. The survey was seeking parental input about the future of the district.

It's tax day, and the IRS website to make direct payments was down much of the day. The IRS fixed the problem, and direct pay is back up, but the IRS is extending the tax filing deadline for those who had problems with the website.
