Thousands of people paid their respects to former first lady Barbara Bush as she lied in repose at St. Martin's Episcopal Church on Friday. Earlier in the afternoon, some of the visitors were greeted by former President George H.W. Bush and his daughter Dorothy.

The funeral service for Barbara Bush on Saturday is private, but afterwards, there will be a procession that will pass through Memorial Park on its way to the George Bush Presidential Library in College Station, where Mrs. Bush will be laid to rest.

The deputy involved in the deadly shooting of Danny Ray Thomas has been fired. Thomas was unarmed when he was shot. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced that Deputy Cameron Brewer was terminated on Friday. Brewer had been on administrative leave since the shooting on March 22.

Students from throughout the Houston area took part in a nationwide school walkout on Friday to continue the call for legislators to tighten gun laws. Hundreds of students also rallied outside Houston City Hall.

Someone set up a fake Facebook profile for the founder of Texas EquuSearch and sent out direct messages to people asking for money. Even worse, they used the picture of founder Tim Miller and his daughter Laura, who was murdered and is the reason Miller started the organization in the first place.
