A Harris County Grand jury has indicted a former Houston First Baptist minister, Jerrell G. Altic for embezzling $800,000, according to court documents. Prosecutors say 40-year-old Altic embezzled thousands over a 6-year period and ended in November of 2017. Altic's embezzlement case has now been delayed until January 23rd, 2019.  His bond has been set at $50,000.

Altic has since apologized to the church and his family says his attorney, James Alston. Alston spoke to reporters after court.

Altic did not face the judge at the hearing Tuesday morning. He was taken away in cuffs and would not speak to reporters. Prosecutors said that Altic allegedly spent the funds on personal travel and the pursuit of a doctorate in divinity.  Houston First Baptist church leaders released this statement about the indictment.
