HOUSTON (FOX 26) — A fist fight ended with one man dead and another wounded in southwest Houston. The shooting was reported at around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday on Dunlap Street at The Heights at Post Oak apartment complex. Multiple gunshots were fired in the parking lot, leaving an 18-year-old man dead and another 18-year-old man injured.
The two men started fighting near one of the ground floor apartments. It then escalated into a shooting in the parking lot.
Police tried to administer first aid when they arrived, but one man was pronounced dead. The other man was wounded in the stomach and taken to a hospital. He is expected to survive.
FOX 26 News has learned that both men were not involved in the fight. Police say shell casings of at least two guns were found, but no weapons were recovered.
Police also say stray bullets went into two apartments.
Houston Police Department Lieutenant Alisa Smith tells FOX 26, "One of them was a vacant apartment but nobody would answer the door, so officers did a welfare check and they checked it. Nobody was inside. The other bullet went into a child’s bedroom. The baby was sleeping, but the baby was fine."
Officers are speaking with witnesses, but the suspects are still out there. If you have any information that can help police, you are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston by phone at 713-222-8477 (TIPS).
