HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The vehicle stolen by the suspect who shot 4-year-old Ava Castillo has been recovered by Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies and Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables in northwest Harris County. Ava died hours after she was shot. Ava's family is now making funeral arrangements for her.
Law enforcement officers found the stolen 2008 Honda Accord abandoned in the Cypress Terrace subdivision in Spring, but no suspects were found.
Orlando Gomez, young Ava's uncle, says he wants justice.
"She's real innocent, real sweet little girl -- she didn't deserve this," says Orlando. He adds that he has spent his life protecting his family. When he heard what happened to his baby sister Diana and his two nieces, he says he lost it. His 10-year-old niece Betsy survived, but he says she keeps recounting the final moments of Ava's life.
"She told me she seen her sister die in her eyes...she seen it with her own eyes," says Orlando.
The girl's mother, Diana, had just arrived home on Monday night when police say three men approached her vehicle and demanded her purse.
"They tried to pull it (her purse) and they couldn't pull it, so she said, they just started shooting," says Julie Gomez, Diana's sister.
Julie also says when Diana saw the three men had a gun, she shielded her children.
"She tried to put her kids behind her, well, one of those bullets grazed her arm and went straight to Ava," adds Julie.
Hours later, Ava died. Now, the family is planning a funeral for the young girl.
"She was just, just fun to be around, excited, cartwheels, always had a smile, just a sweet, sweet girl, sweet girl, a sweet sweet girl."
