Drive-in theaters making a comeback

It's a blast from the past that's making a comeback with a vengeance.

More and more people are flocking to the drive-in.

Showboat drive-in in Hockley, about 36 miles northwest of downtown Houston, is one of only 15 drive-ins left in Texas and 340 in the entire country.

It has two giant screens and is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

You can enjoy two feature films for one low price.

The owner says technology has made the drive in viable again.

"I think the experience is a big big factor why drive-ins like ours and others around Texas have done really well," says Andrew Thomas, owner of Showboat Drive-in.

"With the switch to digital projection we have all the same movies that are playing in all of the big theaters...12 weeks after," says Thomas.

Thomas says he plans to expand at his Hockley location with a third screen, and a new drive-in further south of Houston.
