Detective's accused killer married girlfriend hours before arrest

- The man accused of capital murder in the shooting death of a police detective married a woman just hours before his arrest on Monday afternoon.

According to sources at the Bexar County Courthouse, Otis McKane married Christian Chanel Fields on Monday morning. He was arrested shortly before 4 p.m. the same day.

They were married the same day they applied for a marriage license. Normally, couples must wait 72-hours before marrying, but the judge confirmed that he granted a waiver for McKane and Fields.

McKane was later arrested on charges of killing SAPD Det. Benjamin Marconi. He was arrested without incident on the city's East Side. A woman and a child were with him at the time of his arrest.

Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Nico LaHood said McKane's marriage would not protect him in the criminal case, saying spousal privilege law would not apply.  In a separate incident on Tuesday morning, police were called to a possible burglary at an apartment where McKane lives.
