Deputy terminated after fatal shooting of Danny Ray Thomas

The Harris County deputy who fatally shot Danny Ray Thomas on March 22 has been terminated, the sheriff's office say.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez accepted the recommendation of the department's Administrative Disciplinary Committee and terminated the employment of Deputy Cameron Brewer. He was on administrative duty since the shooting.

According to the sheriff's office, an Internal Affairs investigation showed Brewer did not adhear to the department's use of force policy.

Thomas was shot on March 22 at the intersection of Imperial Valley and Greens Road.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a verbal dispute between two men turned physical and that’s when the deputy tried to step in, but Sheriff Gonzalez said that did not help and the man began walking toward the deputy. The sheriff's office says Thomas did not stop when commanded to do so, and Brewer fired a single gunshot that fatally wounded Thomas, who was unarmed.
