A man is in critical condition after an officer involved shooting Sunday afternoon. It happened at FM 2920 and I -45 around 4:40 PM.

Harris County Sheriffs Department said a deputy initially pulled a man over for a traffic violation. Officials said that could be anything from an expired registration to a seatbelt violation.

When the officer approached the drivers side of the car he ordered the suspect out of the vehicle, but despite those orders, the man began to drive away. The officer was pinned between the door and the vehicle, and at that point he was being dragged by the vehicle. Still holding onto the car, the officer managed to pull out his taser.  According to officials, he tazed the suspect but at this time officers are not sure if it was effective.

Harris County Deputy Thomas Gilliland said his last option was to fire his gun, while the suspect continued to drive away with the officer inside the car.

Deputy Gilliland said the deputy had cuts and bruises on his body and was transported to Memorial Hermann Woodlands. He is in good condition and will be placed on temporary administrative leave. Harris County Homicide is still investigating what the initial traffic stop was.
