Deputy found dead in July died from meningitis

Michael Collins

A deputy, whose body was found inside his Cypress-area home in July 26, died from streptococcus pneumoniae bacterial meningitis.

When Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables conducted a welfare check on Collins on July 26, they smelled a chemical odor and contacted firefighters for safety reasons.

When deputy constables initially found the body of Harris County Sheriff's Office Deputy Collins, they did not find any signs of foul play.

Collins had served with HCSO for 26 years and had been most recently assigned to the Justice Management Bureau Court Division.
