Dentist charged in incident that left child with brain damage appears in court

A Houston dentist charged in an incident last year that left a 4-year-old girl with brain damage made her first appearance in court today.

A judge barred 40-year-old Bethaniel Jefferson from practicing dentistry while her case is pending.

Jefferson is charged with "causing serious bodily injury to a child" by failing to seek and provide adequate medical attention for Navaeh Hall while sedating her during a routine procedure, the district attorney’s office says.

Jefferson is free on a $50,000 bond.
