Deadly small plane crash in Brazoria County

A pilot and passenger are dead, after the plane they were riding in crashed in the San Bernard refuge area of Brazoria County.

It happened around 11:17 a.m. Tuesday, by CR 306 near FM 2611.

According to DPS officials, the single-engine plane was traveling northbound over the county and crashed into a field. The plane flipped and came to rest facing north on its nose.

DPS arrived on the scene, and recovered the two bodies and turned the investigation over to the FAA.

The pilot and owner of the plane has been identified as David Leining.

The identity of the second occupant has not been identified.
