UPDATE 9:56 7/21/2017: The Gulf Freeway has reopened after the deadly crash that occurred at 3 a.m. this morning.

All lanes of the I-45 Gulf Freeway now shut down after a deadly crash this morning. The crash occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on I-45 Gulf Freeway near Scarsdale and Fuqua. According to initial reports from the scene, a husband and wife driving a wrecker truck towing a car hauler were involved in a wreck with a black sedan near Fuqua on the SB Gulf Freeway at 3 a.m. The driver reportedly lost control of the wrecker and hauler during the accident.  His wife was then killed after she struck a guardrail and died at the scene.  Her husband was transported in stable condition to area hospital.

Houston police are still investigating the accident and what caused the truck hauler, driven by the husband to collide with the black sedan. The hauler flipped over on to the guardrail, and tragically the wife was pronounced dead on scene. Police confirm that the other driver of the black sedan has not told them anything about what happened, which is part of the reason they won't be able to re-open the lanes until they know they have every piece of evidence to collect everything.

An HPD investigator on the scene said, "We'll be able to put a 3-D model together that will help us reconstruct what happened. We'll use all that evidence to essentially speak for the people who can't or won't be speaking to us right now."
