Community gathers around family of Jazmine Barnes

The community rallied in support of Justice for Jazmine on Saturday. The event took place at a Walmart parking lot near Wallisville Road and Beltway 8 in northeast Harris County, near where 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes was shot and killed on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018.

A man fired gunshots into the car where Jazmine was riding with mother and sisters. Her mother, LaPorsha Washington, was shot in the arm. Jazmine was shot in the head.

This case has touched hearts throughout the U.S. Some people even came from Louisiana to show their support for Jazmine's family.

The family said the support has been uplifting.

"I thank [you all] so much for doing this, for coming together for my baby," said Washington at the rally. "Every time I see one of [you all] reach out for me, I can hold my head up."

"I want to thank everybody for all the love and support [you all] have showing my baby girl," said Chris Cevilla, Jazmine's father as he spoke to the crowd of supporters.

Jazmine’s case captured the attention of celebrities such as rappers Paul Wall and Trae Tha Truth, who were at the rally.
