Chocolates just in time for Valentine's Day

We ordered from four big-time gourmet chocolate companies. The packages arrived as promised. Today we compare them for taste and presentation. The prices in my story reflect shipping and tax charges.

The $35 package from La Maison du Chocolate arrived first. It was the most expensive because of the required 2-day delivery.

Open it and wrapped up inside is a tiny, but elegant red box of four chocolates, with a nice card explaining what each is.   Really classy, really expensive.

Next Godiva, which arrived a day later.  Cost for these Chocolate Covered Cherry Cordials was $10.83. Pretty presentation with the red ribbon.

Then See's...an American tradition. Cost: $19.00 for this very standard, but adorable heart-sharped box.  The consumer definitely get's the most bang  for the buck with this selection, even if the chocolate isn't considered gourmet by some.

Finally,  Lake Champlain Chocolates, out of Burlington Vermont. This $26.00 box took the longest to get here...5 days, but that's what the website said.  It came nicely wrapped with a red ribbon and inside were 5 beautiful chocolate truffles.

The winner?  Based on taste and presentation our newsroom staff chose Lake Champlain Chocolates.  But better order early to get those inexpensive shipping costs.
