Chihuahuas rescued by teenagers in Clear Lake

- Five young Chihuahuas were found on Saturday night, abandoned in a crate next to a dumpster at the Ivy at Clear Creek apartments. All dogs were infested with fleas, ticks, and all had medical issues. Thankfully for those dogs, 16-year-old Savannah Minter, and a friend were driving by the complex when they spotted the crate.

"I'm not gonna leave them here, it's night time and that's cruel. So I put them in the back of my car and I took them home," said Minter.

After caring for the dogs over the weekend, Savannah and her friends reached out to a local vet who agreed to help the teens, but they dogs still needed to find homes. That's when the mom of one of the teens turned to the Nextdoor app for help.

"We've gotten flooded with responses from people who now foster them or have taken them for their forever homes. Another starting to do donation for one of the pups who has the hernia," said Jenny Perez.

All but one dog has been adopted. Emma was the worse out of the bunch. She has a hernia that needs to be repaired. A husband and wife duo stepped up to help Emma, and raise money for medical expenses. They also agreed to foster her for the time being. It seems for the most part. this story has a happy ending.

As for the person or people responsible for abandoning the dogs, they have not been found.
