HOUSTON (FOX 26) — After 34 years with the Houston Police Department, Gerald Goines is now a former officer after he retired on Friday, effective immediately.
Goines is the case agent at the center of a deadly drug raid. He is accused of lying to obtain a no-knock warrant for the raid in January that left a civilian couple dead and four officers shot.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office is reviewing 1,400 closed cases involving Goines with 27 active cases placed on hold. He and fellow former officer Steven Bryant were relieved of duty in February. Bryant retired earlier in March.
Sources tell FOX 26 News that Goines will receive full retirement benefits unless he is found guilty of a first degree felony offense.
