DAYTON, Texas (FOX 26)
Officers arrived to the parking lot of a child care center in Dayton in response to a report of a child inside a parked vehicle. Unfortunately, the child had already died while strapped to a rear-facing child safety seat.
Dayton police arrived at around 6 p.m. Thursday to the Kreative Kids Learning Center and found the 1-year-old boy in the child seat. When officers checked the vital signs of the boy, they determined they were unable to save him.
During the preliminary investigation, officers determined that the boy's mother believed she had left him at the child care center before she went to her job at the Pasadena Independent School District where she serves as general counsel.
At the end of her work day on Thursday, she went to Kreative Kids Learning Center to pick up her child and learned that she never dropped off the child.
Dayton police believe the child died from the heat while inside the vehicle during the day.
Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn arrived to the Kreative Kids Learning Center to conduct an inquest. He pronounced the child dead and ordered an autopsy for the boy.
Dayton police Department will conduct a full investigation. The boy's family, Kreative Kids Learning Center and Pasadena ISD Police Department have cooperated fully with the investigation, according to a statement from Dayton police.
