HOUSTON (FOX 26) - A 12-year-old boy is recovering this evening after he was shot in a drive-by shooting last night in his own neighborhood. Residents in that southwest Houston community are now trying to figure out who would open fire on a child.
The 12-year-old boy was severely injured. He was walking just a few houses away from his home on Pine Knoll at Leawood last when he was shot in the chest just before 11 p.m.
The boy says a dark-colored car pulled alongside him, someone stuck a gun out of the window, shot him and drove away.
Margarita Soria has lived here 26 years. She says the sound of gunshots are becoming more frequent and she's sometimes frightened to come out of her home.
"Afraid because my husband is disabled, he’s unable to walk. He’s in a wheelchair. If something like that happens, I don’t know what we would do. (You feel afraid to come out in your own neighborhood?) In my own neighborhood, yes."
The 12-year-old boy is in stable condition in the hospital and is expected to survive. Houston police investigators are searching for the shooter and a motive.
