Body of missing kayaker found, identified

The missing Dickinson fisherman that went missing after the canoe he was in overturned has been found and identified. 

22-year-old Francisco Ruben Garza from Hidalgo, Texas was with a 23-year-old co-worker in Dickinson Bayou when the weather caused the canoe to overturn at about 7:30 p.m.

The co-worker was wearing a life vest and was able to make it to shore and call for help.   Garza was not wearing a life vest.  Garza's body was located under water shortly before 10:30 p.m., by the Galveston County Sheriff Office Dive Team.

Initial investigation does not indicate that alcohol or drugs were involved in the drowning.

Garza was temporarily residing in Dickinson as an electrician working on a nearby project with an out of town electrical contractor.

PREVIOUS REPORT: The body of a missing kayaker has been found in Dickinson bayou. Last night, Dickinson police say two men were in a kayak fishing. As they made their way toward the shore, the kayak was overcome by strong winds and the current. One of the men made it safely to shore, but the 22-year-old man with him did not. A dive team later found that man's body. His name has not been released.
