Black smoke, flames at Texas City CenterPoint Energy facility

An electrical transformer fire has been reported at the CenterPoint Energy facility in the intersection of FM 517 and State Highway 146 in Texas City. The City of Texas City is reporting that all personnel are accounted for and no Injuries have been reported.

As of 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, CenterPoint Energy is reporting 329 customers are without service. The company is not reporting whether or not any of these outages are related to the fire.

The City of Texas City released the following statement on its Facebook and Twitter accounts on Tuesday evening:

A transformer at the Centerpoint facility near FM517 & HWY146 exploded around 5:26pm which started a mineral oil fire which continues to burn. However, the situation is under control and HWY146 is open. All personnel accounted for. No injuries. No action needed by the general public.
