A man riding his bike has taken to the hospital in critical condition after a collision with a vehicle.

Police say it happened around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday night on Griggs Rd. at Telephone Rd in southeast Houston.

The 60-year-old bicyclist went across the road at an unprotected area in front of the oncoming car.

A female driving her car westbound on Griggs could not avoid him and struck him.

She stopped and performed CPR on the man as she waited for police.

Charges have since been filed in this crash, and the suspect Jacqueline Cruz, 22, has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

The suspect, Cruz, was driving a beige Nissan Altima westbound on Griggs Road.  The victim, a bicyclist, was traveling southbound on Buford.  The bicyclist failed to yield the right of way and was struck by the Nissan.

Cruz remained at the scene.  Further evaluation determined she was under the influence of an unknown narcotic and she was subsequently arrested and charged in this incident.

The man was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and he remains in critical condition.
