HOUSTON, TX - A Baytown man accused of killing his estranged wife in front police officers over the weekend is expected in court today.
Friends and family have described 39 year old El Rey Gonzalez as a paranoid individual with a troubled past. But they didn't think he would actually follow through on the threats he made to his wife.
El Rey and Elva Gonzalez had only been married for less than a year, and had separated three weeks ago. It was on Sunday when El Rey Gonzalez, showed up to his estranged wife's house demanding she leave with him. He even accused his wife, of cheating on him.
Her two children were home at the time, one of them called 911 telling the dispatcher to hurry. When Baytown police officers arrived, Elva was exiting the home and that's when El Rey came out of the house with a handgun and shot his wife several times in front of police. One officer returned fire striking Gonzalez, he was arrested, but Elva Gonzalez died at the scene. El Rey appeared in front of a judge yesterday where he gave a thumbs up and winked in front of cameras.
El Rey Gonzalez was denied bond and has been charged with capital murder, he is expected to make a court appearance today, we will of course keep you updated if he shows today.
