HOUSTON (FOX 26) - In a city where restaurants are always opening up, International Smoke had the city buzzing before it opened its doors. Why? It's the brain child of Ayesha Curry and renowned celebrity Chef Michael Mina.
"I couldn't believe her skill and her talent," Mina says. "I said, 'I think there's a better path for you than culinary school. Why don't we create a restaurant together?' And out of that we created International Smoke."
Located in the CITYCENTRE complex, International Smoke is serving up barbecue flavors from all throughout the world.
"I would never come to Houston and say, 'I'm here to do American barbecue or Texas barbecue.' That's not what International Smoke is about," Mina says. "International Smoke is really about the amazing flavors that you get when you travel the globe and how many of those flavors really come from grilling an barbecuing."
A proud grandfather stepped in for Ayesha at the grand opening because the third child of Stephen Curry and his wife came a little early.
"Our first grandson. So we're just thrilled," Ayesha's father John Alexander says. "Obviously she couldn't be here. She said, 'Dad will you still go?' and I said, 'absolutely I'll still go'.

Passionate Houston Rockets fans started leaving negative Yelp reviews for the restaurant before it even opened. But that is all a distant memory. The focus is now all on the food.
