Astros celebrate home opener with World Series Championship Ceremony

- Before the home opener Astros fans and their families headed inside Minute Maid Park to get their seats for the big day.

“It’s a family tradition, there are many families out here doing the same thing and if they are not they should be because it’s a lot of fun and it’s great for bonding”, says Bob Crane who went to the game with his son and two grandsons.

Of course, Houstonian's could buy the special gold jerseys and hats worn by the team for the first two home games of the seasons. “I just came to see what they got and of course my wife’s been bugging me about getting a new hat so here you go Becca I got the gold New Gold heart and I wear that for the whole season”,  says Astros fan Nick Jernberg.

“This week will be about celebrating 2017. They’ll be wearing the special gold jerseys today and tomorrow it’ll be the only time we get to wear them you have to be World Series champs” says President of business operations Reid Ryan.

On the field Clay Walker sang the national anthem, followed by a fly over. The World Series trophy was on display by home plate as well.

Ryan says, “there’s a deep sense of pride for what this team did on the field and in the community and people want to do it again and are guys want to do it again we’re off to a good start hopefully we can get that going today”.

The ballpark was packed too. Full of fans ready to start another season of old and now new traditions.

“This is holy water from room I got it from the Vatican and I got it when I went to Rome and I came and bless the field this morning I did it last year and we’ll see what happens”, says fan and so called ‘play ball bunny’ Shirleybob Gower.
