Arsenal of guns now on the streets after being stolen from Waller County Sheriff

- According to a Waller County offense report Sheriff Glenn smith was attending a county luncheon last Saturday at the Saltgrass Steakhouse in Katy.

He arrived at around 11:00 in the morning.

When the sheriff walked out into the parking lot he discovered his county issued vehicle, a 2006 Ford F-250 had been burglarized.

The report lists all the guns that were stolen.

Four o f them are county issued guns including a Heckler and Koch machine gun.

Four of the sheriff's own personal guns were also stolen as was his sheriff's office windbreaker jacket.

Monday night we spoke over the phone to Sheriff Smith.

We asked Smith why he drove around with so many guns in his vehicle.

He pointed out Waller County is a rural area that covers over 500 miles.

He says he also makes service calls like his deputies do and says he can be called out to a SWAT scene or any other kind of crime scene at a moments notice.

There's no surveillance video of the theft.

While there are cameras in the parking lot the report states the camera system is currently not working.

The sheriff says he was told it's been that way for three months.

Waller County Precinct 4 Commissioner Justin Beckendorf's was also broken into during the county luncheon last Saturday.

Two guns were stolen out of his vehicle.

That makes a total of 10 guns now on the streets after being stolen from these two Waller County officials.
