Arrest in La Porte sexual assault of child after sketch released

Randy Baker

Police have arrested a man in the sexual assault of a girl reported near the La Porte Branch Library on South Broadway Street in La Porte.

Randy Baker, 37, was taken into custody early on Tuesday morning. He is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. The assault was reported on April 29.

The girl was walking alone when police say Baker assaulted her near the library. She provided information that helped police develop a sketch of the suspect that was released on Saturday.

Following the release of the sketch, someone anonymously submitted information to the La Porte Police Department that led investigators to identify Baker as the suspect.

LPPD detectives learned that Baker had left southeast Texas and learned that he was in McKinney. A warrant for his arrest was executed early on Tuesday morning by LPPD detectives who traveled to McKinney.

“Solving this horrible crime was possible only by everyone working together and it will ensure that our Mr. Baker will not be able to victimize anyone else,” said LPPD Chief Ken Adcox.

Baker is in custody at the Collin County Jail pending his return to Harris County.
