HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Gunshots rang out shortly after noon Friday in the parking lot of a Chase Bank at 5207 Airline.
Police believe three men waiting in the parking lot knew the Loomis truck would show up.
The driver of the truck stayed in he vehicle while the guard, who was armed, got out and began working on the ATM machine.
The three men and the guard exchanged gunfire, police say.
The guard whose name hasn't been released was struck at least one time and was pronounced dead on arrival at Ben Taub Hospital.
A bullet proof vest was found near the ATM. It's believed to be the guard's but it's not known why he didn't have it on.
The three men fled with no money in a dark colored 4 door sedan.
Police are trying to determine if the three men were connected to the robbers who were shot and killed Thursday night at a north side furniture store.
