Shoppers make their dollars stretch during Sales Tax Holiday weekend

It’s the perfect time to get all the back-to-school clothes for the children in your life. Tax-Free Weekend kicked off Friday in Texas and it applies to clothing, footwear and school supplies valued at less than $100. For every $100 that shoppers spend, they save $8 in their wallets and purses. Some say you can even take the savings to a whole different level.

When you talk about smart shopping, you might want to take a page out of Kathya Lara’s book.

“ Like right now, my mom saved $300 and there's a lot of stuff we bought because the bags were on special, so we saved a lot of money,” Lara said. She and her mother were among many families cashing in on the Tax-Free Weekend savings.

“I'm buying for school, my son is beginning school this year and has to wear uniforms, so I figured this was a good time to buy uniforms,” Jennifer Costner said.

“You get to save a little bit of money," Lisa Humphreys said. "You don't have to worry about oh my god I have to buy this and this and this you can actually save a little and put it in what you need ...food or gas or whatever you're going to need.”

Shoppers shared how they make their dollars stretch to the fullest.

“The way I did it was did a little research to know first what stores were issuing online coupons and then was able to couple that with sales free weekend,” Costner said.

You have some time to hop in on this deal as Tax-Free Weekend lasts until Sunday.
