Briles: Ketchum, Ogor stand out among Baylor freshmen

Quarterback Jarrett Stidham usually garners most of the attention among Baylor's incoming freshman class. On Friday, while speaking in front of the Baylor faithful at a Houston event put on by the Touchdown Club of Houston, football head coach Art Briles was asked which other incoming freshmen stood out.

The two he mentioned are both from the Houston area: Lamar's J.W. Ketchum and Foster linebacker Eric Ogor.

"We'd like to redshirt all of (the incoming freshman)," Briles said. "I think the only couple of guys that might have a chance to get on the field is J.W. Ketchum, a local guy from here at Houston Lamar. (He's) extremely athletic, played quarterback in high school. We're going to play him at safety and returner. He's actually good enough to return kicks. I'm not high on young guys back there.

"But Ketchum is a little bit different," the Baylor coach added. "He's a little more mature guy. He's pretty worldly aware, so he's a guy who can jump in and play."

As Briles continued, he started talking about Ogor.

"Ogor, who's a guy who's also from Houston, might come in and help on special teams," Briles said. "Right now, those are the only two (freshmen who could see the field)."

Ketchum and Ogor are just two symbolic reasons of why the Houston area is important in Baylor's recruiting.

"It's vital," Briles said. "We've got a good name in Houston. I've been in Houston since 1974, on and off, so I know the city. We were at UH, of course, for five years and had a great run there, so we have a little name recognition. It's where it's at. We're always going to be heavy in Houston."
