Suspect taken into custody after barricading himself inside Wendy's

- A suspect is in custody and two officers were taken to the hospital after a suspect who tried to rob a southeast Wendy's barricaded himself inside the building.

At 8:15 PM HPD received a call of shots fired at 10235 Almeda Genoa.

Officers say when they arrived on the scene, the suspect was still inside and all the employees had run out.

The suspect barricaded himself inside held a gun pointed to his head. Police say shots were fired inside Wendy’s. They say the shots were not fired at the officers, they just heard the shots.

The suspect came out of Wendy's a short time later. He did not have a gun in his hand so they did not take a shot at him.

He ran from the Wendy’s to an abandoned bank. When he got to that bank, he shot at the windows. He then crawled inside and that's when he continued to barricade himself.

During this time, one of the officers fired an accidental discharge. One officer accidentally fired his gun, the bullet ricochet, and hit another officer in the leg and arm. When that happened, the K-9 on scene got scared and bit another officer.

The suspect did eventually come out. He had a weapon to his head and pulled the trigger, except it was empty. He had run out of bullets.

The suspect was taken into custody and the two officers were taken to the hospital. No Wendy’s employees were hurt.
