Abbott proposes 'do not hire' list for teachers who have student relationships

Governor Greg Abbott wants to crack down on human trafficking, sexual misconduct in state government and teachers who prey on students.

The governor announced multiple policy proposals in Houston on Tuesday, including a "do not hire" registry for school employees who have inappropriate relationships with students

"To better protect our students from the ongoing abuse by school employees, I want Texas to create a 'do not hire' registry of educators and other adults who have been barred or who should be barred from school employment due to teacher-student predatory relationships,” Gov. Abbott said.

The governor also announced today that Texas Rangers will be the lead investigators for all sexual harassment claims made against public officials. He says that will empower victims to come forward and insure fair and thorough investigations.
