Former officer among arrests in prostitution cases

- Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office Mark Herman released the following statement on Friday:

During February 9-10, 2016 Investigators with Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman's Office, with assistance from Harris County Constable's Office Precinct 1 conducted an undercover operation focusing on the Cypresswood Drive/ I-45 area in North Harris County in response to complaints from the community regarding a high level of prostitution in close proximity to schools, shopping centers and residential areas.  The purpose of this operation was to curtail prostitution by focusing our efforts on the "johns" who solicit sex for money.

Undercover investigators posing as street prostitutes were able to make criminal cases on several males "johns" trying to purchase sex or sex related acts.  Focusing law enforcement resources on sex buyers reduces demand for prostitution, which strangles the sex industry and more importantly curbs human trafficking. The male sex buyers are all different ages, races and come from all walks of life.

As a result of the investigation, twelve (12) individuals were arrested and charged with Prostitution, including one individual who had his four (4) year old daughter in the vehicle with him as he attempted to purchase sex.

"The businesses and citizens of north Harris County have made it clear that they refuse to just stand by and allow their communities to deteriorate to the point where street level prostitution is looked upon as a normal part of our local society."  These types of illegal activities seem to attract other bad elements such as drug dealers and users, thieves and others who would prey upon our local residents.  It will not be overlooked, tolerated or condoned within our local communities   where we live and raise our children."  Constable Mark Herman
