- A blizzard warning has been issued for parts of the east coast. The national weather service says southeast Massachusetts could get the brunt of the snowstorm, that's expected to begin this morning. New York City, Philadelphia, and northern New Jersey could get from 2 to 3 inches of snow between today and tomorrow night.

 

A panel is considering updates to standardized tests for Texas students. They have received suggestions ranging from offering the exams online to no longer requiring seniors to pass them in order to graduate from high school. State legislators will consider the recommendations later this year.

 

There's a unique scholarship being offered in South Africa with a strict restriction. The maiden's bursary award offers a financial lifeline for women who are virgins. According to the rules, the 16 scholarship winners  will undergo regular virginity testing. Critics argue it is discriminatory and unconstitutional.

          Supporters of the scholarship say it helps young women stay focused on their education while avoiding unwanted pregnancy as well as HIV and AIDS.
